An article published in www.eCigaretteResearch.com on 11 February 2014 by Dr Farsalinos announces that a worldwide survey on the characteristics, side effects and benefits of electronic cigarette use has been submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed medical journal.

The study involved analysis of some 19,441 smokers from around the world, (note there were less than 100 participants who were not smokers at the time of e-cigarette use). It’s reported that the results show 81% of the study participants had completely substituted smoking with e-cigarette use, whilst the remaining study participants reduced their cigarette consumption from a daily average of 20 down to 4 cigarettes a day through the use of e-cigarettes. This survey has the potential to provide valuable insight and information about the use of e-cigarettes. We will update followers on the outcomes of the medical journal submission.

www.eCigaretteResearch.com is a research group which states they have ‘no relation with the electronic cigarette industry. Nor do they represent any company or have any financial interest in tobacco and electronic cigarette manufacturing or retailing sectors’. Dr Farsalinos comments that ‘For some studies, the institution has received funding from e-cigarette companies. None of the researchers received any compensation for participating to the studies.’ The website aims to provide information to smokers and electronic cigarette users about the research conducted on e-cigarettes worldwide.
