An electronic cigarette or e-cigarette is a device which contains a liquid known as e-liquid. The electronic cigarette is operated by a battery that vaporizes the e-liquid into a vapour mist to simulate the use of a traditional tobacco cigarette. Electronic cigarettes can also sometimes referred to as a personal vapourizer or a PV or, smokeless cigarette.
When vapour is inhaled from the electronic cigarette a small part called an atomizer vaporizes the e-liquid. e-Liquid contains propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin, flavouring, water and nicotine to produce a “smoke like” vapour.
This water vapour creates a smoking sensation or 'throat hit' much like one you would receive from using a traditional tobacco cigarette.
The act of using an e-cigarette is also referred to as vaping which really refers to the vapour produced when using the electronic cigarette.
Electronic cigarettes come in different sizes, shapes and colours and more importantly they range from easy to use starter kits up to more advanced vape kits which give you more control and adjustability over your vaping experience.
There are 2 main components to a basic electronic cigarette.
The first being the clearomizer which houses the e-liquid and also acts as the mouthpiece at the tip of the device.
At the tip of the clearomizer a user will inhale through the mouthpiece where the device is activated, heating the e-liquid. The clearomizer also contains the heating element is called the atomizer.
The Atomizer heats the e-liquid housed in the clearomizer to produce a vapour that is inhaled by the user. There are more advanced vape tanks which have a larger e-liquid capacity and also allow the vaper to adjust the airflow in the tank. Some also come with child proof caps and locks, take a look at our XO Tank. The casing of the tanks can be plastic of pyrex glass and mouthpieces also vary in size and airflow. Basically there is a great deal of variety so, if you need assistance we are here to help.
The second section of an electronic cigarette is the battery. Batteries come in various shapes and capacities.
Most basic electronic cigarettes have a manual battery which is activated when a button on the battery is pushed to begin the heating process.
Manual batteries will only start working if the button is held down while inhaling from the device.
Some vapers prefer this manual feature as it allows for control of the drag time, it also allows you to switch your device off when it's not in use reducing the issue of leaking when in your pocket or bag.
